College Program Weight Loss Activities

Activity level has a major impact on weight loss success, both during and after students’ time with us on campus. Our goal is to introduce College Program participants to a wide range of activities, allowing them to develop new skills and find activities that they genuinely enjoy.

Many of our students associate exercise with unpleasantness when they first arrive, remembering awkward high school Physical Education classes and feeling like a ‘failure’ due to prior unsuccessful weight loss attempts. We change those negative associations through a structured program that teaches students to set and meet daily activity goals, helps them develop confidence in their physical abilities, and allows them to rediscover the fun of an active lifestyle.

Cardio training, kick boxing, horseback riding, swimming, weight training, and team sports are only a few of the options available on campus as part of Wellspring’s Activity Management Program. Off campus, all College Program students are able to utilize Xcelerate Fitness, a brand new fitness facility nearby that has the latest in cardio and weight training equipment.  In addition, Adventure Track participants enjoy a wide variety of exciting excursions to keep them active and engaged.

Daily Fitness Goals

A cornerstone of the Wellspring Plan is helping students break down the overwhelming problem of weight loss into manageable, measurable steps.   By setting daily activity goals (such as taking at least 10,000 steps each day), students can quickly measure how active they’ve been on a given day and gauge their ongoing progress.  In individual and group therapy sessions, participants work with their Behavioral Coach to assess activity levels and talk about challenges toward staying active. 

The process of setting and meeting daily activity goals at Wellspring helps young adults to develop confidence in their ability to follow through with long-term goals.  As they transition into adult responsibilities, this confidence and self-awareness are essential for success in weight loss and in all areas of their lives.
