The Wellspring Plan: Complete & Proven Weight Loss Program

The formula for our students' weight loss success lies in the Wellspring Plan, an integrated weight loss plan developed by leading researchers, evaluated in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and presented yearly at national obesity conferences.

Wellspring Plan

Wellspring students are trained on all components of the Wellspring Plan, a simple and sustainable program for long-term weight loss and healthy living. The focus is on teaching concrete skills that promote behavioral change and help students shift their beliefs about food, exercise and their own personal potential.

The Wellspring Plan includes:

Low Fat Diet

Students at Wellspring enjoy a nutritious and delicious diet that is low in fat and calories, but full of flavor. The Wellspring diet satisfies hunger and counteracts the biological factors that contribute to weight gain, while providing students with the flavors and textures of the food they love most. In addition, the school curriculum includes intensive culinary and nutrition training, providing students with the knowledge and experience they need to continue eating, cooking, shopping for, and ordering Wellspring-friendly food at home.

Activity Management

Students at Wellspring are taught to set achievable daily activity goals, including taking at least 10,000 steps each day. In addition, students participate in personal training, team sports, and aerobic and adventure activities, all with the goal of helping students learn to love the rewards of an active lifestyle.

Lifestyle Change

Research has shown that long-term weight loss requires substantial behavioral change.  Students at Wellspring work directly with Masters- and Doctoral-level therapists and social workers (called Behavioral Coaches) in 4 weekly sessions that help them make positive lifestyle changes, develop healthy new habits, and learn to cope with life’s stressors.

Family Involvement

Knowing that family support is an essential element in long-term weight loss success, we encourage families to be involved with every aspect of their child’s weight loss journey. We host free 3-day Family Workshops during which all family members can experience the Wellspring Plan, meet their child’s support team, and learn how best to support their child’s weight loss at home.

Continuing Care

When students return home, they continue to receive support from Wellspring through our online Continuing Care program. Students log on to connect with their Behavioral Coach and other alumni, as well as record daily food intake, steps taken, and activity goals.  Continuing Care lasts for a full year after students leave Wellspring, providing structure and encouraging students to continue with the healthy habits learned during their time with us.

Long-term weight loss is a complex problem that requires a comprehensive solution. The Wellspring Plan is that solution—a scientifically-based program that helps students make the social, emotional, and physical changes necessary to successfully lose weight and keep it off.
